About

Daniel Ecker

*1984,
Vienna

Daniel Ecker possesses a refined dexterity which allows him to forge points of attraction between diametrically opposed poles. In his work, artefacts of our affluent society encounter hidden relics of subculture.
Pop meets underground, plastic meets marble, 3D printing meets masterful classical sculpture.
The result is ambivalent works that challenge, captivate, and linger in the viewer's (sub)consciousness, refusing to be quickly dismissed. Through skillful compositions intrinsically laced with his unique sense of humor—often subtly dark and ironic, not least in the titles of his works—he lends even heavy materials a playful lightness.

As a foundation of his practice he often enlarges objects, simultaneously pushing and pulling these objects apart (distorting them by magnitudes) until they shift from object to subject, revealing themselves to us in an entirely new way, detached from their original function and material nature. Daniel Ecker pulls the extraordinary out of the banal, polishes it, and presents it to us with pointed clarity.
